Robin Powell, regular feature writer of the fresh column in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide provides lots of good eating and buying tips each week.

This week, Robin tells us:

  • It is the peak season for finger limes which can be used in sweet or savoury dishes.
  • Pumpkins should be picked with their stems attached to prevent rot and stored somewhere dry.
  • Figs won’t ripen once they are picked so make sure you buy them when they are soft and ready to eat.
